The 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500 slated for May 29, 2022 was already set to be one of the most anticipated races in history.

By May of next year, hopefully we can finally be back to all the things we love about 16th and Georgetown. On top of the heart-stopping racing we saw in Helio’s fourth Indy 500 win, this year he at least got to share it with 135,000 of his closest friends.

But in 2022, imagine that plus 400,000-plus in the grandstands, the infield back to full force, the snakepit buzzing, and Carb Day returning to its true form.

Give me some of that.

On the track, we got two massive updates this week that should have you excited.

First of all, Jimmie Johnson has made the full turn on his feelings about ovals.

With a test run at the Texas Motor Speedway, Johnson drew his first blueprint on potentially getting to Indianapolis for The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Johnson originally said he would not run ovals when he got to IndyCar as a promise to his family, but after dueling on the IMS Road Course twice, plus being part of NBC’s coverage for the 105th Running of the Indy 500, how could you not develop an itch?

Could Chip Ganassi Racing get both Johnson and Tony Kanaan out for the 106th running? That’s to be determined.

Okay now here’s reason number two to get pumped.

Romain Grosjean is not messing around.

Grosjean, who has been a star on the road courses in his first IndyCar season since coming over from Formula One, will be rocking a new look and sporting a new ride in 2022.

It was time for a change for Ryan Hunter-Reay.

The 2014 Indy 500 champ has been close over the last handful of years, but Andretti as a whole needs to press the refresh button.

Enter Mr. Grosjean.

Like Johnson, the frenchman did not want to do ovals when he came to America. But also similar to JJ, that has quickly changed.

Grosjean recently competed at Gateway in the last stop in the IndyCar circuit. Like jumping in the super deep end of the pool for the first time as a kid, now it seems that RG can’t get enough.

Get me to the 2022 Indy 500 asap.

This is going to be fun.
