Dick Vitale joins Dan Dakich to discuss Jimmy V and his legacy. They talk about his relationship with Jimmy V, Jimmy V's 1993 ESPYS speech, Dick Vitale's book, college basketball and federal trials, and more.

On Jimmy V's 1993 ESPYs speech and how the video helped them raise money through the V Foundation:
"I think that the video tries to point out that a lot of people are unaware of what transpired the day before he gave that speech. I mean, it was a very uneasy situation. I was on the phone with him after I went to the rehearsal on the night before the first ESPYS and I was blown away by what they were going to do, like hold him up. In the video, it was described (it is going to be revealed tonight on the red carpet, also I believe in the theater of the ESPYS) but the video points out what Mike and I went through the night before, and the day of the ESPYS. Jimmy, when I called him up, he was whispering, I could barely hear him. He said 'Dick, do you think I am worried about coming to some event? I am not going to see my little girl. I am not going to see her graduate, I am not going to be able to walk her down the aisle in her marriage. I am dying man, I am dying.' I was crying, he was crying, and I finally convinced him that he had to come. 'You gotta come tomorrow man, this is a special night. I saw all the videos that they are going to play.' Then, Mike Krzyzewski flew him on a plane and as the video talks about, he is throwing up all over the place. Then, we were at the hotel and he could barely move. Then, we are at the event and I am trying to get one of our assistants to maybe bring the microphone over to where he is sitting and let him just say thank you here because he can't go up on the stage. He saw us doing that, and the video talks about this, but his words to Mike and I were, 'just get me on the stage.' We carried him up onto the stage. I stood there because I thought he was going to say 'thank you, sit down,' but I went up and stood there for 20 minutes. I stood there in awe. I could not believe it. I watched him give that speech and that speech has now played an incredible role in helping us raise $225 million thus far, that has been raised for research on every kind of cancer. A lot of people want to make an impression in the world and do things in an impactful way. His legacy to me, is not cutting this down to winning a national title. His legacy is the millions and millions of dollars raised to save people's lives that is going to go on forever and ever. I am going to be long gone, you're going to be long gone and the V Foundation and Jimmy V legacy will continue, and continue, and continue."
