Hoosiers baseball had a big season this past season, and that success can partly be contributed to the hiring of Jeff Mercer as head coach. Mercer chats with DD about his transition from Wright State, what it means to be a Hoosier, and how to build on early triumphs.

On what it means to be a Hoosier.

"I'll be honest with you. It was a surreal experience, we had just had our first child. We got a phone call from Indiana and my dad had coached at IU. Everything I had done was to try to come back home and coach at Indiana. and represent the community I was raised in."

On approaching his new job:

"It's been a good year. The boys did a good job, and they finished strong. I really tried to get to know the boys and build some relationships and build trust. When you come in, you're gonna make adjustments. Like when I left Wright State, they're going to make adjustments there. The biggest piece is respecting the success and traditions.
