Purdue President Mitch Daniels joins The Dan Dakich Show to talk about BTN money, the NCAA and Purdue's symbiotic relationship with NASA.

"What is your take on BTN money and money coming back to the schools?"

"First of all, the Big Ten Network has been an enormous success, and our outgoing commissioner Jim Delany saw better and more clearly than anybody else the possibilities. I can still remember in my last job he went around and saw everybody when he was getting it going and I remember sitting and listening to him thinking if this thing is going to work. It did work, beautifully, and by now over half of our (Purdue's) revenue and about half of IU's comes from Big Ten sources."

"Where is the NCAA right now in terms of enforcement and enhancing schools individually?"

"They have a very tough job, it's a role I sure wouldn't want. They have to try to be responsive to hundreds of schools of all different types and sizes and everybody essentially gets the same vote. So, they've been dealt a very tough hand but I think they do a pretty good job. I'm glad they are our neighbors, I'm glad they're here, and given the handicaps they have to labor under I think they do pretty well."

"What do you think they do well?"

"First of all, they put on a fantastic basketball tournament which I think is one of the best sporting events of any kind anywhere. You have to give them credit for the way they have managed that and brought that along. You talk about a successful brand, there's that. I think they do serve as a conscience on academics, which Purdue and IU have always been good at that but there are schools out there that aren't. They're pretty rigorous about that. If we didn't have them there, we would try to invent an organization to do a few of those things."

"The federal trials in basketball. How much tolerance would you have whose head coaches name comes up in that?"

"Zero - and I know you would too. There's headaches and I have worries in this job, but I can tell you I have never had cause to worry about behavior of that kind around here and I trust that I never will. No, it's a darn shame, and frankly because the NCAA has real difficulty policing things like that. In this case I hope the prosecutors on this case will be really aggressive and expose everybody who needs to be and deter others from doing the same."
