Other than a group of false positive tests within the organization, the Indianapolis Colts have yet to have a game impacted by COVID-19 in the 2020 NFL season. That stretch may be in jeopardy.

The Baltimore Ravens are set to take on the Colts this Sunday. While Frank Reich and company are getting ready for Lamar Jackson, the Ravens are dealing with a Coronavirus issue in the locker room.

According to Sports Illustrated, star cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who signed close to a 100 million dollar extension with Baltimore last month, tested positive for the virus. Following the confirmation, the Ravens had to put six more players into self-isolation for five days. It has already been determined that Humphrey will not play against the Colts on Sunday.

To help break down the Baltimore news, the Voice of the Colts Matt Taylor dropped by The Dan Dakich Show on Tuesday. Matt talked with DD about the NFL’s process for contact tracing.

“(Baltimore) anticipates some guys landing on the COVID-19 list, which doesn’t mean you have COVID but it means you are exposed to it,” Taylor said. “The guys who are not positive have a chance to play on Sunday. They probably won’t practice because they need to have consecutive days worth of negative tests to be available. It’s like the Las Vegas Raiders situation a few weeks ago where their offensive line didn’t practice but still played.”

Preparation for John Harbaugh’s defense will not be easy. The six Ravens players in contact tracing are all defensive players. The names include cornerback Terrell Bonds, linebackers L.J. Fort and Patrick Queen, and safety DeShon Elliott.

On the flip side, the Colts need to prepare like it’s an ordinary game; Especially that they’ll be facing last year’s MVP. Taylor told DD that Jackson is as dangerous as ever on the ground.

“A big part of the Colts success in the next month has to be stopping the run,” Taylor said. “Baltimore is a unique offense as Jackson is their leading rusher. They also have four running backs with at least 40 carries and 200 yards. Rick Venturi says they look like a college football team, so you have to cut off their strength in rushing the ball and make them one dimensional.”

At the end of the day Tuesday, no other Ravens players have tested positive. But as we have seen in the sports landscape today, that can quickly change.
