Indianapolis Colts safety Julian Blackmon has been forced to slowly chip away at and maneuver his game to even step foot on an NFL field.

He had a single Division I offer after graduating from Utah’s Layton High School in 2016. The lone option to go play at the University of Utah. And that’s all he needed.

Since being drafted in the third round by the Colts last year, Blackmon has earned any and all praise heading in his direction.

He is on his way to becoming ‘elite’.

That was one of the main takeaways (and Blackmon is going to have a lot of those this year) from his conversation on The Dan Dakich Show with DD Wednesday afternoon.

Blackmon is hungry.

“We want to be elite this year,” Blackmon said. “Last year we were good, but we want to be elite. I think that starts with making more situational plays and forcing more turnovers. We really want to win.”

Last year for Matt Eberflus’ crew on the defensive side, it was all about the end of season takeaway total.

They became obsessed with it. As they should’ve.

As a unit, the Colts defense must be enthralled with how good they can be. Because they’ve got a shot to do something very special.
