July 1 usually means a lot of things.

First and foremost, it means that summer is in full swing and we’re LIVING baby. We are absolutely hyped for 4th of July weekend. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

The start of July also means Bobby Bonilla gets his bag from the New York Mets. Happy Bobby Bonilla Day to all! Every July 1 until 2035, the Mets write old Bobby a check for 1.19 MILLION dollars.

Where can we get that kind of agent?

But of course, the beginning of this month has NFL Training Camp right around the corner. In the case of the Indianapolis Colts, July 27 is the big day at Grand Park in Westfield.

On July 28, fans are back in the facility to watch their favorite players up close. Having the cheers and clapping back around the field must be the ultimate morale boost for anybody on the Colts roster.

But they have some hard work ahead of them.

Take it from former Colts offensive lineman Joe Reitz. He’s been through all of the stuff with OTAs, he has done training camps, and he sacrificed his body to protect Andrew Luck. He knows exactly what is ahead for the next month and change.

“You could do two months of OTAs in helmets and shorts but the first padded day of training camp carries more weight than whatever you did in the last two months,” Reitz said. “Once the pads come on and it’s real football, they come back and they’re hitting. Chris (Ballard) and Frank (Reich) run an old-school training camp. A lot of teams don’t hit during camp, but the Colts do. And I think you have to do it.”

It’s about to be all business on the north side of Indy.
