In one of the biggest upsets in the 148 installments of The Kentucky Derby, 80-1 shot Rich Strike took the Run for the Roses and the 1st Jewel in the coveted Triple Crown.

This is a horse that, until the day before the race, was an also eligible who would not be running unless an entrant scratched.

Well, the stars lined up, a horse did in fact scratch from the Derby, and Rich Strike played the role of opportunist to win the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.

 

Now the sports world shifts its attention to Pimlico in Baltimore, MD for the 2nd Leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness, in less than two weeks.

Can this historic horse get one step closer to the Triple Crown or will it prove to be a one hit wonder?

That’s the beauty of sports, but one thing is for certain; unlike most one hit wonders Rich Strike won’t soon be forgotten among horse racing fans even if he retired today.
