Fans of the Indiana Hoosiers,
Brad Stevens is not coming to Bloomington. Chris Holtmann is not going either. And it also won’t be Scott Drew.
Before we touch on Coach Drew. Apparently Holtmann was on the wish list once again for IU. And it’s not happening.
You had your chance four years ago. It’s too late now.
But back to Coach Drew and the Baylor Bears. He took over that program when absolutely nobody in the entire country wanted to touch it. Drew built that thing from the literal underground all the way to the top. He’s not giving that up.
And per Pat Forde from Sports Illustrated on The Dan Dakich Show, even if Drew was to take a look at things in Bloomington, Baylor University would be prepared to counter.
“All he has to do is bat his eyes twice at Indiana and he would get five million dollars by Baylor,” Forde said. “He might even get that without doing it. Right now, Baylor is a pretty good place to be Scott Drew.”
That’s not just for the financial benefit either.
Sure, Gonzaga is the club everybody is talking about right now. But as we have seen, the Zags aren’t traditionally true championship contenders every year with some lackluster NCAA Tournament performances in the past.
The door is wide open to win in the Big-12. Especially as Shaka Smart reportedly is leaving Texas for Marquette.
“Bill Self is handcuffed at Kansas,” Forde added. “Texas and Oklahoma are both in transition. You still have Chris Beard at Texas Tech to deal with and Oklahoma State’s Mike Boynton is on the rise. But you’re in position to dominate the Big-12 over the next several years.”
So there you have it.
The Indiana coaching search continues. Forde later explained in the interview if he was in charge of the search, he wouldn’t let Loyola Chicago’s Porter Moser leave the state without the job in hand.
Would a Moser hire look like Archie Miller 2.0? Maybe.
But right now this ship is sailing straight towards a deserted island if they don’t act quick with six IU players now in the transfer portal.
