The Philip Rivers era of the Indianapolis Colts got off to a rocky start with a Week 1 loss at Jacksonville. Since that point, Colts fans have seen the version of Rivers that Chris Ballard paid $25 million for.
Since losing to the Jaguars, Rivers has led the Blue and White to five wins in their last six games and are looking ahead to this Sunday’s matchup versus the Baltimore Ravens and reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. Rivers jumped on The Dan Dakich Show Wednesday afternoon and talked with DD about his progression in 2020.
“Looking back to Jacksonville minus the turnovers and red zone penalties then against Cleveland too we haven’t been lights out but pretty efficient,” Rivers said. “Hopefully we continue to ascend in the right direction as the year goes as an offense and as a team.”
A telling stat on the former North Carolina State Wolfpack QB is his touchdown to interception ratio. Rivers threw two picks against the Jaguars with one touchdown. But since that point, he has nine touchdown passes to four interceptions. He has three TD’s in each of the last two games against Cincinnati and Detroit.
As we sit on Wednesday, Rivers has led Indianapolis to a 5-2 record and a tie for first place in the AFC South. With the Tennessee Titans losing to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Colts jumped to the top of the division with their victory at Detroit. But the gauntlet of Baltimore, the Green Bay Packers, and Tennessee twice is looming.
For being around as long as he has, Rivers knows every team can be dangerous.
“This is a week-to-week league,” Rivers explained. “What happened last week doesn’t matter. We need to have a great week of practice then go out there and get it done once again. Then you got to have a short memory both good and bad.”
Rivers also expressed his gratefulness to still be playing and in a spot where he is wanted like Indy. With his prior experience with Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni in San Diego, the knowledge of the playbook that Rivers came into Lucas Oil Stadium with has paid off in the first seven games.
