The Butler Bulldogs are still waiting to get back on the Hinkle Fieldhouse court after a COVID-19 test came back positive following their 66-62 win over Western Michigan on November 25.

Since the positive test came from someone affiliated with the team, the Bulldogs have had to quarantine and postpone three upcoming games versus Eastern Illinois, Northern Kentucky, and Kansas State. The next time Butler can potentially play is their Big East opener against St. John’s on December 14. The game is scheduled to be at Hinkle.

To give us an update on what’s going on with the Bulldogs, head coach LaVall Jordan jumped on The Dan Dakich Show Wednesday. Jordan told DD there are separate regulations that the team needs to follow from the CDC, NCAA, Big East, and Butler University.

“There are a lot of entities there that you’re trying to make sure you follow the guidelines for all of them,” Jordan said. “We can’t practice with the team, but we can provide some physical activity recommendations. It’s kind of like where we were in the summer when they weren’t with us.”

Jordan mentioned that many teams have had to deal with the virus in some way. Just like College Football, you never want to have a problem in the program. But if it does happen you have to be ready to get through it together.

“We have to make sure our guys are physically and mentally healthy to re-enter competition,” Jordan added. “It’s all about finding the small victories and positives. There needs to be some mental toughness to get through it, but I like our competitive spirit.”

St. John’s is by no means an easy opponent in the first place. But as Butler gets back on the court for the first time in a few weeks, Mike Anderson’s team plays one of the fastest styles in the country.

The Dawgs will need to be prepared.
