Parris Campbell Makes List of Top-10 NFL Rookie Of The Year Candidates

NFL.com's summer rankings sneaks the Colts electric rookie onto their list. Why?

There's been plenty of hype around Colts rookie wideout Parris Campbell from the moment he was drafted back in April.

"Finally" the Colts and Chris Ballard went after a playmaking receiver in the draft. The dude runs a 4.3 40-yard dash. He's an instant threat to score as soon as he touches the ball. Putting that together with Andrew Luck opposite of T.Y. Hilton or Devin Funchess?

NFL.com continues it's pre-training camp-evergreen-debateable articles by ranking the top-10 candidates for 2019 Rookie of the Year

Campbell comes in at 10. Here's why:

"I made the mistake of underestimating Mike Thomas when he was coming out of Ohio State in 2017, but I'm not making that same mistake with Campbell. I was an early backer of Campbell's, thanks to his diversity and explosive traits, and those attributes could serve him well as an OROY candidate this season. Don't sleep on Campbell's deep-ball tools to go along with his extraordinary catch-and-go burst on underneath routes. Andrew Luck's "work-share" mindset could preclude Campbell from loading up on statistics, but his talent as a return man might offset that."

Thomas has been an absolute monster, and is now the highest paid receiver in the game. But Lance Zierlein makes a great point - Thomas was kind of underrated after being drafted.

Put him with Drew Brees and Sean Payton and bang. He's a star. A similar scene is happening right here in Indy.

An explosive, athletic Ohio State receiver: check

An MVP candidate quarterback: check

An offensive wizard as a head coach: check

It's always tough for a pass-catcher to win any of these kind of awards. Since 2009, only two wide receivers have won the OROY.

Odell Beckham Jr., and Percy Harvin.

And wouldn't you know it, both Campbell and Harvin's college coach Urban Meyer made that exact comparison of the two after the Colts selected Parris a couple months ago.

If Campbell can make some explosive, highlight reel catches from Andrew Luck plus add a score or two from special teams, who knows?

You know what they say, history repeats itself.
