Imagine that you are in charge of an NFL defense.

It’s Week 10 of the season; You’re just entering the doldrums of the year and injuries are piling up on the interior. You are facing the Indianapolis Colts.

This particular Colts backfield features a trio of Jonathan Taylor, Marlon Mack, and Nyheim Hines.

Good luck.

Seriously though. After the Colts announced that Mack is returning to the team on a one-year, two million dollar deal, who in the world has a better running back room than the Blue and White?

Jeff Rickard and Kevin Bowen looked at what the Indianapolis backfield may look like this coming season Tuesday on The Fan Morning Show. Like everyone else, they’re ready to see what this thing looks like.

“Can you imagine two series of Jonathan Taylor smacking you in the face and then you bring in a fresh Marlon Mack,” Rickard pondered. “Then after you do that you run Nyheim Hines out there on third down a few times. And finally you just turn it over to JT and let that offensive line pound people down.”

Mack tore his achilles in the first game of the 2020 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. But he never completely left the picture. Taylor and Hines spoke publicly often times about Mack being there for them in the film room to provide feedback.

But now it’s “The Return of the Mack”.

“This gives the Colts one of the more deeper and versatile backfields in the league,” KB said. “In the season opener of 2020 against Jacksonville he looked great. With him and Xavier Rhodes back too, those are two signings I can get behind.”

Don’t forget that this season is going to be much more of a return to normalcy for NFL players.

They will get OTA’s back, along with a legit training camp and a preseason routine.

If you let this Colts running back group get comfortable and in a position where they are cruising, heads up. Because there won’t be any holding back when the clock strikes August.
