It feels like a decade since we had a full capacity and completely normal Indianapolis 500.

Still last August, the show went on and Takuma Sato came away with his second win of The Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Since then, the last five or so months have absolutely flown by.

And that means we’re now gearing up for the 105th Running of the Indy 500 on Sunday, May 30.

The set in stone date begs the question though, how many fans can get back through the turnstiles of 16th and Georgetown this year?

The Fan Morning Show has your answer. Our friend and President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Doug Boles dropped by the program on Friday afternoon to give us a much needed dopamine boost with an update on the race.

“We are really planning for fans here at the Speedway this year,” Boles said. “The other thing that we’re doing is not making a decision on what we’re doing until as late as possible. The nice thing is we’re an outdoor venue with 100 days to go. We’re going to do everything we can to make sure we have fans here.”

That’s the stuff that gets us going.

As we saw too with the ability to put on last year’s race with no spectators, this is a crew out at the Speedway who aren’t prepared to only meet the bar.

“The COVID numbers in the state of Indiana are continuing to go in the right direction and the vaccines are becoming available so there’s a lot of good things we can focus on,” Boles added. “At this point in time we’d love to have as many people as possible come to the 500 this year.”

Less than 100 days baby!
