It’s hockey night in the 317.

And a familiar voice of the Chicagoland area will be spending the evening in Downtown Indianapolis.

As the Indy Fuel get set to take on the Fort Wayne Komets for a Central Division showdown, Blackhawks great Eddie Olczyk will join the Fuel broadcast as an analyst for tonight’s clash.

Now that sounds like any ordinary assignment for Eddie-O; But it’s far from it.

Olczyk will get the opportunity to work with his son and Fuel color commentator Nick. Edzo and Nick will join play-by-play man Andrew Smith for the call on FloHockey.com.

To get us all ready for a night on the ice, Edzo joined Kevin Bowen and Big Joe Staysniak on The Fan Morning Show.

Olcyzk loves the heritage that his family has built with Jim Hallett and the Fuel since they became the ECHL affiliate of the Blackhawks. Eddie’s son Tommy played for Indy a few years back.

“We had talked about this possibility of me joining their broadcast last year but with the pandemic hitting everything stopped,” Olcyzk said. “I did a Blackhawks game last night. I have one tomorrow too; So I said let’s do Friday night as the rival Komets come in.”

Since retiring as a player in 2000, Olcyzk has been a coach, scout, ambassador, and decision maker at the highest level in the National Hockey League.

But everyone knows him for his on-air charm.

Watching Edzo with the great Pat Foley on Blackhawks broadcasts has been a tradition among families in Chicago for years; Especially after Olczyk’s bout with cancer. He fought through it and returned to the booth in a courageous manner.

And now the hockey fans of the Hoosier State will get to hear his work on a more local level in one of the biggest minor league rivalries of all time.

Tune into The Fan Morning Show weekdays from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
