Colts running back Nyheim Hines was the 104th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and hours before the kickoff of the 2021 season he inked a new three-year extension with the team.  On Wednesday’s Fan Morning Show, he joined Kevin Bowen and co-host Jimmy Cook to talk about earning a new deal while still in his rookie contract.

“I always wanted to play in the NFL but the goal in mind was to always earn an extension and that second contract.  It’s something I don’t take lightly.  I appreciate the Colts valuing me.  I plan on earning every penny of this new deal.”

Hines was the eighth running back selected in the 2018 Draft but is only the second one to earn a contract extension besides Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb, a fact that wasn’t lost on him.

“It means a lot.  That’s why I wore number 42 because four times two is eight.  I just want to have a great career.  I’m so much more than a running back and I’m glad the Colts allow me to use my unique talents.”

Unique? Yes. Versatile? Absolutely. But don’t call him a “gadget guy”, a phrase he is not fond of.

“It seems like it’s always a poke and a jab to say I’m not as good as a traditional running back or can’t play every down.  I don’t like being labeled anything other than a football player.”

The full interview is available below the article as the guys also dived into why Hines changed his number from 42 to 21, what he plans to buy with his new contract extension and looking ahead to their Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Rams!  Be sure to listen to The Fan Morning Show with Kevin Bowen every weekday morning from 7-10a on 93.5 and 107.5 The Fan!
