Heading into a bye this Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts sit at 4-2 and second place in the AFC South. The lone team in front of them are the undefeated Tennessee Titans, who NBC’s Peter King had high praise of on The Fan Morning Show Thursday.

King called the Titans “possibly the best team in pro football.” Indianapolis will match up with their division foe twice in a three week span starting Week 10 down in Nashville. They’ll host Mike Vrabel’s crew at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 12.

Over the next five weeks, the Colts are going to be thrown in the gauntlet for arguably their toughest stretch of the season.

After they face Detroit in the Motor City next week, it’ll be the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens in between the games versus Tennessee. King told Kevin Bowen and Big Joe that he still needs to learn more about the Colts to truly tell what they are going to be.

“I think the Colts are one of eight or 10 teams who we really don’t know all that much about yet,” King said. “They have really played at both ends of the spectrum. One reason you have seen this inconsistency is some of the carelessness by Philip Rivers with the ball. Rivers really needed that game on Sunday (versus the Bengals).”

Even though King doesn’t know his projection of the Colts yet, he is absolutely on board the Frank Reich train.

“I think one of the reasons you hire Frank Reich and why they are lucky he’s the head coach is he understands how to maximize the talent he has,” King added. “That game the other day told me everything I need to know about the offensive ethos and imagination of this team. Trey Burton had kind of disappeared after the ‘Philly Special’, and last game was a perfect description of what Reich does with players. He positions them to succeed.”

On the defensive side, King praised Chris Ballard on the DeForest Buckner trade, as well as the Julian Blackmon draft pick. But at the end of the day, it’s about results on the field.

The next five weeks will teach fans and media alike what this team is capable of. Now that Burton is starting to heat up with the tight end core of Jack Doyle and Mo Alie-Cox, it’s on the stars to step up and make a big run.
