After a truly crushing loss to the Baltimore Ravens on national television, Colts fans were obviously frustrated, angry and wondering what the hell was going on as the team sits at 1-4. The last thing most fans wanted to see was an incredibly overly optimistic tweet from owner Jim Irsay saying to stick by the team and that there would be not one but TWO Lombardi trophies for the Colts in THIS DECADE.

There are ill-timed tweets and there’s this. Just hours after your team blew a 25-9 lead to the Ravens on national television and fell to 1-4 on the season, it isn’t exactly an ideal time for fans to then contemplate this team pulling of multiple Super Bowl wins in this decade, let alone one. How about a postseason win first? Then we can get crazy and think of a possible AFC Championship Game appearance. This Colts team seems miles away from being in the Super Bowl hunt. Right now, they are barely staying alive in the playoff race, mostly due to a woeful AFC South division, and we’re just entering Week 6.
On Thursday’s Fan Morning Show, Jake Query and Brendan King tried to make sense of the timing of the tweet and The Athletic’s Zak Keefer suggested the tweet stems from Irsay’s anger and frustration with only getting one Super Bowl with Peyton Manning and company.

Keefer noted that the one Super Bowl with that group is the reason he boasts about winning multiple championships going forward because of how only winning one eats at him to this day. Are Irsay’s tweets counter-productive? Is he just trying to take the focus off the team and put it on himself for a brief period of time? Only Jim knows. What most fans know is that saying this team or any future itineration of this team is going to win multiple Super Bowls is not only off-putting but it’s delusional. A win against the Houston Texans on Sunday will at least give the team, the owner and fans a brief reprieve from a grueling start to the season but any talks of championships need to be put to bed until this team proves themselves to be actual contenders.
