INDIANAPOLISIt took until the final round of the 2019 Draft before the Colts took an offensive lineman.

Utah offensive tackle Jackson Barton was the selection at No. 240 overall in Round 7.

Here are 3 thoughts on the Colts drafting Barton:

1. Tall Tackle

At 6-7 and 310 pounds, Jackson Barton is the tackle project that many thought would come earlier in the 2019 Draft.

Barton was a two-year starter at left tackle and had several family members also play collegiately for Utah.

Like almost all of the picks for the Colts in 2019, Barton is known for his athleticism, compared to other tackles.

Barton said he was surprised that the Colts chose him.

2. Offensive Line Pick Finally Comes

It took until Round 7, but the Colts kept their streak alive of drafting at least one offensive lineman. That streak dates back to the 2002 Draft.

Coming into the draft, the future of Anthony Castonzo was a question. Castonzo, who turns 31 years old later this year, is going into the final year of his contract.

But this draft didn’t offer much of an answer when looking for a possible replacement at tackle next spring.

Barton will likely be competing for a roster spot.

3. Any O-Line Turnover?

Outside of Howard Mudd and Chris Strausser coming in to coach the group, the offensive line personnel has not changed much for the Colts since last year.

Matt Slauson retiring is the only notable defection from a group that returns all 5 starters and their key backups.

Some changes in the run game philosophy is expected to take place though with Strausser taking over for Dave DeGuglielmo.
