A Look At Colts Playoff Odds With Four Regular Season Games Left

With 4 games to go in the 2019 regular season, the Colts need a ton of help to make the playoffs. What do the playoff chances look like going into the final quarter of the season?

INDIANAPOLIS – For the second straight week, the Colts suffered a loss that really shrinks their realistic playoff chances.

It’s why Jim Irsay spoke to his football team after they dropped to 6-6 heading into the final four games of the year.

“Just challenged us to do everything we can do to end 10-6 and then let’s see,” Frank Reich said of Irsay’s message in the post-game locker room following the loss to the Titans.

“Usually, 10-6 gets you in and a high percentage of the time, so we’ll see where the numbers are.”

Currently, the numbers have the Colts likely needing a 4-0 run to end the season, while also needing multiple losses from the Titans (7-5) and Steelers (7-5), plus another loss from the Raiders (6-6).

That’s the position you are in after losing back-to-back divisional games against teams also in the middle of the playoff picture.

Currently, the Colts have a 10 percent chance of making the playoffs, a number that has dropped significantly the last two weeks.

With a win on Sunday over the Bucs, those odds climb to 21 percent. The Colts are just 1 game back in the loss column of the Steelers and Titans, but those potential tiebreaker scenarios aren’t great for Indianapolis.

With a loss on Sunday, the playoffs odds for the Colts would drop to 2 percent. Basically, any stretch other than 4-0 to end the season eliminates the Colts from the playoffs.

Within the division, the Texans (8-4) continuing to win is not helping out the Colts (6-6). For Indianapolis to get back into the divisional race, they will need three losses down the stretch from the Texans, and the Titans to lose multiple games. That’s very unlikely.

The fact that all 6 of the Colts losses have occurred in AFC games is really hurting them in tiebreaker scenarios.

Here’s a look at the AFC standings with 4 weeks remaining this season:
