INDIANAPOLIS – The underwhelming Pacers tenure for Tyreke Evans has ended with another thud.

On Friday afternoon, Evans was suspended by the NBA for two seasons due to a violation of the league’s anti-drug program.

Evans, 29, is a free agent this summer after playing one season in Indiana.

Here was the Pacers statement on Evans’ suspension:

The Indiana Pacers were informed Friday by the NBA that Tyreke Evans has been dismissed from the league for a violation of the league’s anti-drug policy.

We take these matters seriously and will reach out to Tyreke to offer our support.

On the court, Evans provided the Pacers nothing close to what they expected when they signed him to a 1-year deal, worth $12 million last summer.

The veteran guard missed 13 games for a myriad of reasons while shooting a career-low 38.9 percent from the field. He averaged 10.2 points per game in playing 20.3 minutes off the bench.

Evans battled a knee injury last year and also was suspended for a game early in the season because of repeated tardiness.

He openly admitted that the culture by Nate McMillan and the Pacers was a bit different from what he was used to in previous NBA stops: Sacramento, New Orleans and Memphis.

Even before Friday’s news, the expectation was the Pacers would not be re-signing Evans this summer.
