Episode 137 focuses on Kevin’s time at the Colts Complex on Tuesday with Chris Ballard and a host of other Indy media outlets watching film with the Colts GM. He breaks down Ballard’s film analysis and thoughts on his first six picks from 2019, updates you on the injuries of Eric Ebron, Jack Doyle, and Darius Leonard, and then answers your Twitter questions.

On Dontrelle Inman signing with New England:

“When you look at what you’ve lost at receiver, and what you’ve gained…there’s no question in my mind the ceiling has been raised significantly at the receiver position.”

“Ballard mentioned yesterday – outside of probably rebuilding this defense – the biggest offseason priority for the Colts was finding a bigger receiver target for Andrew Luck.”

On Rock Ya-Sin:

“Ballard showed a couple of one-on-one plays with Rock Ya-Sin going against Hunter Renfrow from Clemson, Deebo Samuel from South Carolina. When you watch film I think one of the first things you notice is there’s a presence physically with him. He’s a legit 6’0. He’s not going to wow you with speed… Ballard was adamant that he’s not stiff, but there is a little bit of tightness with him. More of a powerful athlete than just this incredibly speedy athlete that’s going to make up a lot of ground if he gets beat long.”

“The Colts really liked from the Combine to the pro day, he improved in some short-area quickness testing. That was a big thing that I think resonated with them.”

On Ben Banogu:

“Ballard flatout said that no one could block him at the Senior Bowl.”

“He’s a guy that’s going to impact things right away on 3rd down. I think that’s what has intrigued the Colts the most is they have a very exceptional athlete, who can play in space, and who can do some things that Bruce Irvin did with Pete Carroll in Seattle. I think that’s kind of the comp…this is new. This is giving Matt Eberflus a new toy.”

On Parris Campbell:

“The Colts certainly believe he can and will complete (the route tree), but it’s more a matter of just when he completes that. Ballard I think is willing to be very, very patient knowing full-well that Reich and Sirianni can get him to produce from day 1.”
