Colts Defense Has Been In Lock Down Mode Since Kansas City

Coach Rick Venturi joins JMV after the Colts win a big conference game in a dominating fashion over the Jaguars.

On what the win meant for the Colts...

“Every game at this stage of the season is humungous.  It almost takes on a playoff atmosphere. I think it was really important after these last two weeks, and particularly that clunker last week, to regain confidence for the entire franchise. No matter what people say and what face they put on, when you go through a bad patch like that, there is a confidence lag and the only way you get it back is with performance. Obviously staying undefeated in the south, and now they are totally back in control of their destiny.”

On game against Jaguars...

“After a real tough first half with the score being 10 to 7, offensively, we had a bad two series at the end of the half where we got sacked.  They came out in the second half and really dominated both sides of the ball and won the second half 23-0. Obviously that is what we needed and it was just the doctors order.  Everyone got a breather when it finally wasn’t in a nail bitter like it has been for the past two months.”

On Colts defense...

“That defense for the last five weeks has been very good.  It started with the Kansas City game when Matt Eberflus made a very strong tempo change. Point totals are down, everything has gone down really. It was a little bit of a shaky start on Sunday but the Colts played 50 minutes until that last giveaway touchdown.  It was 50 minutes of shut-them-down football and I thought that Matt did a good job in that he had a really good mix. He is playing with young corners and he still played aggressive man to man. He is at his best when he times the blitz.  He is trying to come up with new wrinkles and they have been very successful at it.”
