Kevin Bowen joins The Ride with JMV to discuss the expectations put onto the Colts this season. Kevin touches on the fact that not hearing a lot from the Colts in the off season is actually a good thing. Kevin also talks to JMV about how the expectations for the Colts will remain high for the next few years and why they should remain high given the potential of this Colts’ roster.

“What’s going to be the big moment for you going out to a Colts’ practice this year?”

“That’s a good question. There’s nothing as obvious as last year that you had on the first day going over to Grand Park. There are suttle story lines that some might consider really big and some not at all. Whether that’s where Deon Cain is at. Anthony Walker versus Bobby Okereke for maybe the starting job at MIKE linebacker. How does Devon Funches look with Andrew Luck? I think that is a very real story line as he tries to build a rapport and maybe get his NFL career back on the right path as he is in a contract year. The health of Clayton Geathers. Such a big year for him. So again, nothing like having your starting quarterback having arguably his most important body part injured but there are other story lines that I think will play out in the next month at Grand Park.”

“Those levels of expectations are stratospherically higher this year.”

“I think Frank Reich and his team have to embrace those expectations. They aren’t changing if you are able to prove yourself this season. Obviously New England has done it better than anyone else in the past fifteen years or so in maintaining those expectations and even exceeding those expectations. The Peyton led Colts in the 2000’s in the regular season was able to maintain that level of excellence. When Chris Ballard and Jim Ursay talk about sustained success and all of that, with ESPN ranking your team at number one for projected NFL success you need to embrace that because that is going to become the norm for this team.”
