Peter King of NBC Sports joined JMV to take a long form view of Andrew Luck retiring and the context of what preceded it. As the last person to interview Andrew Luck one-on-one, Peter gives his perspective on what he learned on and off the record in his time with Luck as well as what he talked to Chris Ballard about on Sunday, a day after Luck’s retirement became official. Finally, Peter King gives his opinion on if he believes that Luck will play again and why he’s still picking them to make the playoffs with Jacoby Brissett as the starting QB.

JMV: “Do you believe at all that the Colts had any thought at all that Andrew Luck might in his mind be thinking about retiring before he actually came in and made them aware of that last week?”

Peter King: “Well I think if I can answer the question in two ways: The first way I would say did the Colts know back in March or April or whatever that this was a possibility I know that has been both intimated and reported in various places, I found no corroboration to that. And I’m not saying it isn’t true but I don’t buy it and I’ve asked several people involved in this and I don’t buy it and I don’t think it’s true. Now, is it possible that sometime in April or maybe even in the start of training camp did he give a nod and wink to Frank Reich? I can’t tell you that, they’re very close but I don’t know anything about it. Andrew Luck is such a smart person, a thoughtful person, and he is such a kind of consider all options person that it’s silly to think that he woke up on August 19th and said ‘yup I’m retiring’.”
