Rick Venturi Discusses How the Colts Can Beat the Chiefs

Coach Rick Venturi breaks down the Colts loss 31-24 to Raiders and what went wrong for the team as a whole.  Rick analyzes both sides of the ball but points out some key positives in the Sunday night matchup against the Kanas City Chiefs.

On the Colts offense…

"We got off to a horrific start with two punts to start the game. They somehow got that slant in the backfield and then it became 14-0 right away. Obviously the drops were horrendous. We were never in control like we have been in other games or in sync. We could never keep a sustained rhythm and the drops were a part of that.  They had a key third and five and could make a first down but they dropped the ball. They didn’t have a lot of penalties but our penalties were momentum killers. It was always something that set us behind. They did a good job of getting tackles for losses and that kept us out. Those plays that set us back in the count just killed us."

On the upcoming game versus the Chiefs...

“To win this game, they have to dominate the time of possession.  They lost it last year 39 minutes to 22. They can't do that and expect to win.  They can’t go in lethargic like last January. They need to go in and take it to this poor defense right off the bat.  They need to set a high bar. They have one good player in the front with Chris Jones but they know were he is going to be...They need to keep the ball moving on first down and have a good mix of throws and runs.  The seams will be there but they need to be able to keep everything moving.”
