You want more football in 2021?

Wait, let us answer that question. Yes you do.

Roger Goodell and the National Football League made it official on Tuesday afternoon.

The NFL will officially play a 17 game schedule in the 2021-22 season. That not only means that you get an extra week with your buddies on the couch watching the Indianapolis Colts and Red Zone, but also the Super Bowl gets pushed back by seven days.

The new schedule also guarantees one other thing. Tom Brady is coming to Indianapolis.

That will be appointment television.

Trust us, we’re all about free football. But the 17 game slate will certainly change some things; Particularly in the single season record category. Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson made his weekly appearance on The Ride with JMV to break down the big news. He told JMV that it will be interesting to see how this all boils down.

“It definitely screws with all of the record books because they are all built on a 16 game regular season,” Monson said. “But the league has done it before. 16 games came on the heels of less games, so the record stuff will get over it. All of the records that are based on a cumulative number at the end of the season will fall. For the rest of us, it just means yet another week of NFL action.”

Back to that match-up with the Bucs.

Can you imagine the environment in Lucas Oil Stadium that day? Especially if what Goodell said today is true.

Oh boy…
