Earlier this week, we told you that the Colts cannot overlook the Detroit Lions in Week 8 or else they will make the Blue and White pay. A lot of that has to do with wide receiver Kenny Golladay.

The Chicago native was ranked number 17 in Pro Football Focus‘ top-20 wide-out rankings earlier this month. With gunslinger quarterback Matthew Stafford, and future Hall-of-Famer Adrian Peterson in the backfield, that trio can present some problems. Golladay led the NFL in receiving touchdowns last season with 11.

But so far this year, the Colts defense has taken care of business. Matt Eberflus‘ crew has surrendered the second fewest passing yards per game in the league; While also ranking top five in the NFL for least rushing yards allowed.

Thursday on The Ride with JMV, Michael Grady discussed the threat of Golladay and the matchup he will face with Xavier Rhodes and the Colts D. JMV called Golladay a “hidden gem”.

“He got off to a slow start this season because of a hamstring injury but now he’s slowly but surely hitting his stride,” Grady said. “He’s far and away Stafford’s favorite target, and when you watch him play with the catches he makes, he really attacks the ball.”

According to PFF, Golladay has caught 63 percent of his contested targets since the start of last year. If Rhodes and the Colts can find a way to limit Golladay’s production, they’ll have a solid chance to win. In total, the Lions rank just 20th in the league for pass yards per contest. Still though, they have some other threats that can beat you.

“This will be a nice test even though the Lions aren’t the sexiest opponent,” Grady added. “You also have D’Andre Swift, who is similar to Jonathan Taylor in the sense that the fan base is excited about his potential. You still have Danny Amendola there and T.J. Hockenson is going to be tough to deal with.”

Kickoff is set for 1 PM on Sunday afternoon as the Colts have a chance to jump to 5-2.
