He did it.

Edgerrin James is finally a Hall of Famer.

He’ll be inducted with the Class of 2020 this August in Canton, Ohio to the Pro Football Hall of Fame after waiting six long years.

The former Colts running back joined The Ride with JMV on Thursday evening to talk about that, what Indianapolis means to him, and who will introduce him before his induction speech in August.

First and foremost – how does it feel to be a Hall of Famer?

“It’s a great feeling man. It’s one thing that you’ve always worked to do, to accomplish, and for it to finally happen, it’s a great feeling,” James told JMV.

It finally happened for him, but unfortunately it was a bit of a wait.

James retired in 2009 after 11 season in the NFL, seven of them being in Indy.

Was there ever any doubt or frustration for him during his six year wait?

“Nah I never doubted that it’d happen. You don’t really understand the process until after you get to going a couple years,” James said.

“You just say ‘hey when the time is right or certain factors came into play’ you know it’ll all work itself out. So it was just a matter really of time. I wasn’t really trippin’. I wasn’t going to press because you don’t want to get too high or too low. You just want to kind of let it take care of itself.”

It did take care of itself, and through the years Edge always knew that the city of Indianapolis and Colts fans always had his back.

We knew he was a Hall of Famer.

“I love the city of Indianapolis, man. The way I was embraced and you know I’ve always had good memories there. Had a great time there. That’ll always be home for me. Anytime I go there I’m so comfortable.”

You’re always welcome, Edge.

As for looking ahead to August and the entire induction ceremony that will happen, JMV was curious who will be the one to introduce James before he makes his speech while wearing the gold jacket.

“The man who gave me my first check: Mr. Irsay”

What a night that will be.
