The Indianapolis Colts need the left tackle position to be solidified like Popeye needs spinach.

AKA very badly.

Eric Fisher seems to be the right man for the task. He’s still recovering from an achilles tear suffered in the AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. But by all accounts, rehab seems to be trending positively.

Carson Wentz’s new blindside protector jumped on The Ride with JMV Thursday and talked with John about what’s to come in the 317.

“I’m here to do my job to the best of my ability,” Fisher said. “I was playing some pretty good football (before the injury). But after I bounce back from this, there is still room to grow. I was texting (Wentz) after I signed and I’m looking forward to both of us overcoming some hurdles here.”

Fisher’s journey to Indianapolis also had a lot to do with his prior relationship with Chris Ballard.

And long ago before this week, Ballard had a lot to do with Fisher being drafted #1 overall to the Chiefs.

Funny how things work out, huh?

Also, imagine this. When everybody is healthy and good to go on that offensive line, here’s what it will look like.

Eric Fisher | Quenton Nelson| Ryan Kelly | Mark Glowinski | Braden Smith

You better bet Fisher is pumped to line up next to Nelson too.

“I had a little introductory session with Quenton a couple years ago in the pro bowl,” Fisher added. “What a phenomenal player. He’s got a lot of football left and I’m excited to be with him in his prime years. They all seem like down to earth and blue collar guys who are ready to work.”

If everything goes according to plan with the rest of Fisher’s rehab, there’s no reason why this can’t be the most dominant offensive line in the NFL.

Just a matter of time and patience.
