The success of Carson Wentz in Blue and White will ultimately determine if the Indianapolis Colts achieve their ultimate goal.

It’s really one of the simple truths for Jim Irsay’s team.

If they truly want the multiple Super Bowl rings that Irsay has talked about, it all is going to start with #2.

On The Ride with JMV Wednesday afternoon, a giddy but truthful Irsay dropped by to tell John everything Colts fans need to know before the NFL Draft kicks off on April 29. There’s going to be a lot of pressure on the 2021 Colts, but the big man thinks his club can handle it.

“Let’s be honest, the success of Wentz will dictate just how far we go,” Irsay said. “That’s just reality. But he needs support. If Frank Reich can get Carson’s play to a high level which we feel like he can, then you’ve got something special. There’s no doubt about it. That’s what I know Colts fans are wanting to see; Just how good can Carson Wentz get.”

Don’t get us wrong.

The potential health of Wentz’s weapons will also define the upcoming season. As will the decision of who Chris Ballard and company selects with the 21st overall pick.

One returning asset for Indianapolis was specifically on Irsay’s mind with JMV too. It had to do with the three-headed monster that is developing in the Colts back field.

The return of the *Mack*.

“When you look at Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines that’s a rare combination nowadays,” Irsay added. “But Marlon Mack is more than capable of coming back. I haven’t forgotten what a great football player he is. I really think he’s been underrated more than anything. I’m really excited about where we’re going.”

It’s full steam ahead over at Lucas Oil Stadium.
