Any dream you may have had about J.J. Watt potentially lining up next to DeForest Buckner this season is over.

As well are any of the takes from “plugged in” NFL analysts who thought they had Watt all figured out.

“He wants to go home to Green Bay!” Nope. “He’ll want to compete for a Super Bowl with Buffalo!” Wrong. “He wants to go play with his brothers in Pittsburgh!” Lol.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Watt will ink a two-year, $31 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals. $23 million is guaranteed.

Now don’t get us wrong, making bank and going to live in Scottsdale for a few years doesn’t sound like too bad of a way to spend life.

But it’s absolutely a missed opportunity for the Indianapolis Colts to bolster their defense even more. On The Ride with JMV Monday, John mentioned that the new Watt contract is right around what the Colts should have felt comfortable paying.

“I will tell you I thought the Colts would have more interest here,” JMV said. “But it didn’t surprise me. If you were to tell me that number beforehand, I thought it would be in the ballpark. Clearly it was not. Now are the Colts going to handle free agency like they usually do, by bargain shopping this thing?”

There is also the question if Watt would have even be interested in Indianapolis in the first place.

Still though, the Colts are going to need some help. And with the second most cap room in all of the National Football League, there’s no excuse for not going after the big chips.
