Since taking over as General Manager of the Indianapolis Colts, Chris Ballard has preached the importance of investing with early draft picks into the Offensive and Defensive Lines. With 2018 1st round pick Quenton Nelson extension eligible next summer and Left Tackle Eric Fisher a free agent after the season, will the Colts have the cap space to pay both and keep the left side of the offensive line in tact?

Fan Morning Show Host Kevin Bowen joined JMV Wednesday to talk about the predicament Chris Ballard has on his hands next summer and whether it’s a smart roster building move to have so much money tied up in your Offensive Line:

“What else are they going to do at left tackle? One of the issues I have with Chris Ballard is that he hasn’t drafted an offensive tackle, really at all, and certainly not with a substantial pick going all the way to Zach Banner. So if not Fisher who? The next couple of months and how Fisher looks likely answers that question.”

With $57 million in cap space next summer the Colts have the 7th most money to work with in free agency. How does Chris Ballard want to use it? With Quenton Nelson extension eligible and notable free agents TY Hilton, Xavier Rhodes, Mo Allie-Cox, Zach Pascal, Mark Glowinski, Chris Reed, will the Colts be able to pay Eric Fisher what starting left tackles make in the NFL? Only time will tell for a team that needs talent upgrades at multiple positions.
