Indianapolis – For the 1st time since 2016 the Indiana Hoosiers beat the Purdue Boilermakers, snapping a 9 game losing streak. .

On the season Rob Phinisee was only 27% from 3 but started out hot, knocking down his first three 3pt attempts and finished the game with a team high 20 points going 4/7 from 3 including a game winner that sent Assembly Hall into pandemonium.

Rob joined JMV on Friday to talk about his confidence after making his first attempt and if it propelled him to have his best game of the season:

“That first shot is huge. Once you see that first ball go in, you think every time you shoot it’s going to go in again. After I hit that first one I knew I was going to have a good game. The crowd really helped us too and we fed off their energy.”

Phinisee then told JMV how important it was to get a win and the impact it will have not only on this current Hoosiers team but the fanbase too:

“It’s something I’ll never forget. I had faith in myself last night with the coaches and the players too. Just being able to snap that 9 game losing streak was very important and something we talked about together as a team that we weren’t going to lose to Purdue this year.”

The Hoosiers now have to avoid an emotional let down as they look to break another long losing streak vs another Big Ten team as the Michigan Wolverines come to Bloomington. The Hoosiers haven’t beaten Michigan since 2016, a 7 game losing streak. If you missed any of JMV’s conversation with Rob take a listen below!
