INDIANAPOLIS – One day after the 2019 season came to a close, the Colts signed an offensive lineman by the name of Chaz Green to a reserve/future contract.

The move hardly garnered any headlines, yet to the Colts, Green was a guy they thought could play a key depth role in 2020.

Well, when Green’s name was called this past season, it did not end well.

Green got benched in the first quarter against the Raiders. And then he was passed up on the depth chart later that month for a retired Jared Veldheer, as the Colts looked for someone to replace Anthony Castonzo in the playoffs.

In 3 games last season (1 start), the Colts turned to Green for significant action at both tackle spots. Just look to how the Colts handled Green late in the season for their answer on what they thought of his play.

At 28, Green is a free agent this offseason.

He does have 8 career starts and plays a position that teams are always looking for depth.

What happened to the Chiefs in a Super Bowl should only heighten team’s attention on making sure they try to achieve some level of adequate depth at tackle.

Currently, Braden Smith and Will Holden are the only returning offensive tackles still under contract for the Colts. Fellow tackle Le’Raven Clark is also a free agent.

While Green did deal with some injuries last season, it’s hard to see him back and earning a spot on the 53-man roster.
