INDIANAPOLIS – Some continuity will be maintained as the Colts replace a coordinator for the first time in the Frank Reich era.

Quarterbacks coach Marcus Brady will be the new offensive coordinator of the Colts, replacing the departed Nick Sirianni, the team officially announced on Monday.

Brady, 41, has coached the Colts quarterbacks for the last three seasons.

Frank Reich has heaped plenty of praise on Brady for building/re-building fundamentals into various Colts quarterbacks over the years.

Among the responsibilities Brady has had, helping to implement a weekly pass protection plan has been a chief duty for him. And, in the Reich era, the Colts have been outstanding in protecting their quarterbacks.

In 2020, Brady’s plate included tons of behind-the-scenes development with Jacob Eason, both in the film room and throwing sessions outside of practice.

With Reich expected to continue to call plays, Brady will take on more of a presence in leading offensive meetings and having extra say in weekly game plans.

Whereas Sirianni was a bit more fiery on game days, the temperament of Brady seems to align more so with Reich.

Before Sirianni took the head job in Philly, Brady’s name was being floated as a possibility to be the OC in Jacksonville.

There, he could have possibly been the play caller, and worked with Trevor Lawrence.

Instead, his promotion in Indy role will mainly be behind the scenes with an unknown starting QB. Some might ponder if Brady’s presence as OC would increase the chances of Jacoby Brissett or Jacob Eason to potentially start in 2021? That decision still is going to come down to the decisions of Jim Irsay, Chris Ballard and Frank Reich, with some input from Brady.

Brady has been an offensive coordinator before, albeit in the Canadian Football League. The Toronto Argonauts won the 2017 Grey Cup in Canada with Brady as their OC.

With the Sirianni news, and the likelihood he will pluck a few Colts staff members, you have to expect some additional changes in Indy.
