INDIANAPOLIS – Even before his trade to the Colts became official, Carson Wentz was heading across the country to work with a potential breakout player in 2021.

Michael Pittman (and fellow second-year wideout Dezmon Patmon) are currently out in California training during the offseason.

Wentz decided to pay them a visit and get in some throws earlier this month.

What was Pittman’s first impression of his new quarterback, who (for the record) has zero issues with that overblown jersey number?

“He was bigger than I thought he was,” Pittman said of Wentz during an appearance on the Ride with JMV last week.

And what about the arm of the 6-5, 237-pound Wentz?

“He throws the ball with some velocity,” Pittman said of his new quarterback. “It has touch, but it gets there with more power…I really like the way that he throws the ball.”

Colts fans should love the sound of that.

Wentz and Pittman establishing early chemistry is a critical piece to how successful this 2021 season could be for the Colts.

It’s no secret that the Colts are high on Pittman. The second-year wideout has defined goals in Year Two that includes a big jump in his individual production.

And he’ll try to do that with a quarterback that has a much livelier arm than Philip Rivers.

During his introductory presser, Wentz mentioned that more trips around the country are possible for him this offseason as he tries to build chemistry with a new locker room/receiving group.

On the flip side of that, Pittman says the Colts need to provide the support for their new QB.

“He was with Frank Reich when they made that Super Bowl run and they are just comfortable,” Pittman says of Wentz. “It’s like a comfortable feel. Whenever somebody is comfortable, then they usually perform well.

“We are just trying to make him as comfortable as possible because we know he is that MVP caliber player and he can be that again. We are building around him and going all-in on him. We are just excited to see him ball out.”

That’s more music to the ears of Colts fans.
