INDIANAPOLIS – It’s a schedule with more than half of its games against playoff teams.
That’s what awaits the Colts this fall.
In 2022, the Colts will play the AFC West and NFC East, along with matching up against Minnesota in the ‘extra’ game (it was Tampa Bay last year).
Here’s a look at the 2022 opponents of the Colts, with dates and times to be announced in the spring:
Home
–Chargers (9-8): This is going to be a fun one to watch inside of Lucas Oil Stadium. Justin Herbert will be an entertaining opposing QB for Colts fans to watch.
-Chiefs (12-5, AFC West winner): Patrick Mahomes has never played in Indianapolis, so that adds to this intrigue. Will this be a primetime matchup?
–Eagles (9-8, Wild Card): All the connections for this one: Carson Wentz, Frank Reich and the return of Nick Sirianni. The Eagles made a surprise run to the playoffs this year, led by Jalen Hurts.
–Jaguars (3-14): At least the Colts can beat the Jaguars in Indy. Jacksonville will bring a new coach to this matchup.
–Steelers (9-7-1, Wild Card): Typically, it’s the Colts having to travel to Pittsburgh for this one. But the Colts will host a Pittsburgh team likely moving in a different quarterback direction.
–Texans (4-13): The Colts have had good control over Houston in recent seasons. Will it be Davis Mills under center for a second straight year in Indy?
–Titans (12-5, AFC South winner): It was that Halloween matchup between the Colts and Titans last year that all but ended the AFC South this past season, despite two more months remaining in the season.
–Washington (7-10): What will the WFT nickname be for this one? It’ll be Philadelphia and Washington as the two NFC East opponents coming to Lucas Oil Stadium in 2022.
Road
–Broncos (7-10): It remains to be seen who the head coach and quarterback will be for a Denver team that has some key talent in important spots.
–Cowboys (12-5, NFC East winner): It’s a return to Jerry’s World for the first time since 2014 for the Colts.
–Giants (4-13): The Colts played on Monday Night Football in their last road trip to take on the Giants (December 2014).
–Jaguars (3-14): It’s jarring to type this: the Colts have lost 7 straight meetings to the Jaguars when playing away from Jacksonville (6 in Jacksonville, 1 in London).
–Patriots (10-7, Wild Card): Is this rivalry back on? The Colts finally got over the New England hurdle this past December. In Foxborough though, the Colts have lost 6 straight meetings (dating back to 2006).
–Raiders (10-7, Wild Card): These two teams have met annually in Frank Reich’s now 5 seasons. It’ll be the Colts going back to Vegas looking to avenge a critical home loss this past season.
–Texans (4-13): The Colts/Texans meeting in Houston has lacked some juice after pivotal matchups from about 2014-18.
–Titans (12-5, AFC South winner): Will it come down to these two teams for the AFC South? The Colts, with a hobbled Carson Wentz, lost in Nashville this past September.
–Vikings (8-9): With the Vikings finishing 2nd in the NFC North this past year, they match up against the Colts (2nd place in the AFC South) for that 17th game on the schedule. The Vikings are looking for a new head coach.
