Get used to Matt Painter continuing to call the shots in West Lafayette. The longtime Purdue head coach signed a 2-year extension on Friday. From purduesports.com:
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University and head men’s basketball coach Matt Painter have agreed on a two-year contract extension through the 2023-24 season.
In addition, effective July 1, 2019, Painter’s contract will convert to a rolling five-year term via automatic one-year extensions that could extend the agreement beyond 2023-24.
“Matt Painter is a proven winner, and he wins with integrity,” Purdue vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Bobinskisaid. “He has built a program that makes Boilermaker fans proud and embodies the very best of college athletics. Matt’s priorities and approach align perfectly with our values at Purdue and are evidenced by the success his players achieve on the court and in the classroom. We are excited for the future of Purdue men’s basketball under Matt’s continued leadership.”
Painter has been the head coach since 2005 holding a record of 295-149 during that time while also capturing the Big Ten regular season championship twice, the Big Ten tournament once, and back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
The Boilermakers start their 2018-2019 campaign under Painter on November 6 at Mackey Arena against Fairfield.
