Greg Rakestraw returns for another edition of Soccer Saturday as the Indy Eleven prepare for the upcoming season.  The first action on the pitch takes place today in a preseason matchup against Bridges FC and Martin Rennie joins the show, as he always does, to discuss not only the action this weekend but also the upcoming season.  Before that though, Greg takes a moment to reflect on former (and now retired) Eleven player, Colin Falvay, and his career with the team.   USL analyst and friend of the show, Mike Watts, joins Greg to discuss all things USL as the league is weeks away from its 2020 season.  Carmel and Guerin Catholic product, Cam Lindley, now only joins the Eleven this year, but he also joins the show.  He and Greg discuss not only the homecoming but  what his role will be and how he fits in with his new club.  Finally, Greg breaks down the Premier League and their winter break schedule.

Just how close to a regular season match will today’s contest look?

Rennie responds, “I think it will be a ver y good tempo. I think there will be lots of energy.  The difference for us will be that one group will play for a half a game and the other group will play for half a game as we build up the minutes, but I think while the players are on there the tempo will be really high amd the standards will be really good.  I don’t expect the players to keep it up for 90 minutes.”

Is there a move that was made this offseason that jumped out of the page to you?

Mike Watts – “I think in the Eastern Conference that Tampa Bay has made a massive improvement in thier central midfield with Louis Hilton… I think Dane Kelly to Charlotte  will give them sort of the bump that they need.  No more expecting all of your goals to come from wide positions.”

What was it about this opportunity that made it so attractive to you?

Lindley tells Greg, “There’s definitely parts of my game that I need to work on.  I feel like Indy was a good spot for that.  The coaching staff with Martin.  I think they’re moving in the right direction with the way they want to play and definitely for the modern game.  Everything they are implementing is stiff that I need to improve in my game.”
