NEW ORLEANS–After playing football in the NFL for 20 seasons, Purdue University graduate Drew Brees has decided to retire. He also has a new job.
Brees told “The Today Show” on NBC Monday morning that he will be working for NBC Sports as an NFL analyst on “Football Night in America” and as a game analyst for Notre Dame football.
“I’m excited about that journey and I’m excited to stay very closely connected to the game of football. It’s been such an important part of my life,” said Brees.
Brees also plans to stay involved in philanthropic work in New Orleans, where he played for the New Orleans Saints the last 15 years.
“I’ll be honest. I’m most excited about those things because that’s where I think we can make the biggest impact,” said Brees. “Life is full of defining moments and next chapters. Whenever you leave one chapter and go on to the next one, you hope to have left a legacy behind where you left it better than you found it.”
Brees graduated from Purdue University in 2001 with a degree in industrial management. In his college career, Brees set two NCAA records, 13 Big Ten Conference records, and 19 Purdue University records. In 2009, Brees was inducted into Purdue’s Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.
Brees spent 15 seasons of his NFL career with the Saints and 5 with the San Diego Chargers.
