SOUTH BEND, Ind. — It took four quarters and two overtimes for the #4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish to upset the #1 Clemson Tigers Saturday night in South Bend.

It’s yet another regular-season winning streak destroyed by the Irish, who dealt Clemson their first loss in the regular season since 2017.

The Tigers were led by freshman quarterback DJ Uiagaielei with regular starter Trevor Lawrence out as part of COVID-19 protocol for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

He threw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns. It was not enough to counter the Irish defense in overtime who sacked Uiagaielei in the second overtime period to help seal the win for Notre Dame.

Kyren Williams scored the game-winning touchdown on the drive before. It was his third touchdown of the night to go along with 140 yards rushing.

Irish quarterback Ian Book was never sacked as he threw for 310 yards and a touchdown.

Notre Dame remains undefeated at 7-0 on the season and is firmly in first place in the ACC conference standings.

The Irish have fully joined the conference for the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The lone annual rivalry game on Notre Dame’s schedule this year is Boston College. The Fighting Irish and the Golden Eagles will face each other next Saturday in Boston.
