INDIANAPOLIS: Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the Colts have 18 spots available on their 90-man roster.
With 7 draft picks, they have room to backfill that roster with many undrafted free agents.
For now, let’s take a look at a potential depth chart heading into the draft:
-Quarterback (3): Philip Rivers, Jacoby Brissett, Chad Kelly
-Running Back (5): Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines, Jordan Wilkins, Bruce Anderson III, Darius Jackson
-Fullback (1): Roosevelt Nix
-Wide Receiver (10): T.Y. Hilton, Zach Pascal, Parris Campbell, Reece Fountain, Ashton Dulin, Steve Ishmael, Chad Williams, Rodney Adams, Malik Henry, Artavis Scott
-Tight Ends (6): Jack Doyle, Mo Alie-Cox, Billy Brown, Ian Bunting, Xavier Grimble, Matt Lengel
-Offensive Tackles (7): Anthony Castonzo, Braden Smith, Le’Raven Clark, Andrew Donnal, Brandon Hitner, Cedrick Lang, Travis Vornkahl
-Offensive Guards/Centers (6): Quenton Nelson, Mark Glowinski, Ryan Kelly, Javon Patterson, Jake Eldrenkamp, Chaz Green
-Defensive Linemen (11): Justin Houston, DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, Denico Autry, Kemoko Turay, Sheldon Day, Tyquan Lewis, Al-Quadin Muhammad, Ben Banogu, Gerri Green, Jegs Jegede
-Linebackers (7): Darius Leonard, Anthony Walker, Bobby Okereke, E.J. Speed, Zaire Franklin, Matthew Adams, Skai Moore
-Cornerbacks (9): Kenny Moore, Xavier Rhodes, Rock Ya-Sin, Marvell Tell, T.J. Carrie, Quincy Wilson, Picasso Nelson Jr., Lafayette Pitts, Jackson Porter
-Safeties (4): Malik Hooker, Khari Willis, George Odum, Rolan Milligan
-Specialists (3): Chase McLaughlin, Rigoberto Sanchez, Luke Rhodes
Some takeaways:
-Most of the quality needs are on offense, mainly at wide receiver, tight end and offensive tackle.
-Another running back would be wise with unrestricted free agent Jonathan Williams on the open market.
-With the Colts probably a number short at running back and tight end right now—and the draft could change that next week—there’s a definite opportunity for fullback Roosevelt Nix to make the team.
-The deepest position group on the roster has to be the defensive line with a few interior guys (Denico Autry, Tyquan Lewis) having the opportunity to kick outside on run downs to replace Jabaal Sheard.
-Linebacker continues to be a position of all Chris Ballard draft picks, along with the undrafted Skai Moore.
-Could probably use another body at safety to compete for a potential 53-man roster spot.
