In terms of picking up the first overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, things weren’t looking too hot for the Indiana Pacers.

The Blue and Gold had just a one percent chance of picking up the top selection, and ended up grabbing the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft. In such a key year for Indiana, especially with a new coach coming in, Kevin Pritchard and company must hit on this selection.

Bad luck continues for everyone over at Bankers Life Fieldhouse though. The Pacers did not pick up a single-digit draft pick for the 32nd straight year.

There is no room for another T.J. Leaf type disaster. Leaf is not even on the team anymore.

So far in their history, the 13th pick has belonged to Indiana three times. The most recent occasion? When they took Tyler Hansbrough out of North Carolina.  As entertaining as “Psycho T” was, that was not an organizational shifting pick.

There have been some dynamic players though coming from the #13 slot.

Kobe Bryant, Zach LaVine, Devin Booker, and Donovan Mitchell is a pretty solid list.

The key question though: Is that type of player out there for the Pacers at 13?

We will find that out on July 29.
