INDIANAPOLIS – T.J. Carrie is the other free agent cornerback for the Colts in 2021.

Obviously, Xavier Rhodes will garner the major headlines when talking about that position this offseason, but Carrie is a name not to forget.

And that’s especially true if/when Rhodes seeks out a bigger pay day elsewhere in free agency.

That would all of a sudden make the need for the Colts to bring Carrie back a higher priority.

Carrie’s appeal comes from his durability, his versatility and his professionalism.

Those are all important traits at a position where the Colts don’t have a whole lot of proven players.

While Carrie does turn 31 this summer, he’s missed just 1 game since 2015.

He lined up as both an outside and inside cornerback for the Colts last season, and was used more often than Rock Ya-Sin to close out the season.

Carrie found the ball a few times in 2020 with 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery.

His play was much improved from last year with the Browns, as he allowed a completion percentage of 57.5 (down from 68.3%) and a passer rating of 78.0 (down from 105.1).

For the reasons above, it seems like the Colts would be wise to give Carrie another short-term deal with hope that the likes of past draft picks Rock Ya-Sin, Marvell Tell and Isaiah Rodgers develop more.
